What we cannot do
Open encrypted notes. Without your vault passphrase nobody can, us included, so no message can bring them back.
Often asked
Is it end-to-end encrypted?
Yes, once you turn it on: encryption is off until you enable it. Note content is then encrypted on your device with AES-256-GCM before it syncs, and our server only stores ciphertext. File and folder names travel in clear, because sync matches on them.
Is Mortis Cloud free?
Yes, for everyone: the apps, sync, encryption, shared folders and 10 GB of storage. There are no ads and no trackers, and the project is funded by optional donations.
Which platforms are supported?
Desktop apps for Windows and Linux, an Android app, and the web app in any recent browser, which covers macOS, iPhone and iPad. Everything syncs in real time.
How does sharing with an AI work?
Share a note or a folder as one link. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or any AI that can open a web page reads it with the links between notes kept. The link is not listed anywhere, but anyone who has it can read it, so give it only to people and tools you trust.
I forgot my password. Can you recover my notes?
You can reset your account password by email to sign back in. Encrypted notes are another matter: they only open with your vault passphrase, which we never receive, so nobody can recover them without it.
